Resveratrol Scams are on the rise, learn what to look out for!
When prominent people like Dr Oz, Oprah, and shows like 60-Minutes run specials about an unregulated supplement it creates a major buzz. While creating a buzz around a supplement that could potentially help fight diseases of aging can be good, it also paves the way for scrupulous marketers out there looking to make a quick buck.
While resveratrol "may" be the next wonder drug it is important to take measures to protect yourself from losing your hard earned money. There are steps you can take to help insure you are getting a high quality resveratrol product. There are also precautions you can take before entering your credit card information online.
Here are some common scams or misrepresentations associated with resveratrol:
Free Trial Offers - BUYER BEWARE!
It is very important that you read the fine print when these offers are being made. Most of these offers tell you all you need to do is pay for shipping. The problem is if you don't cancel the order before your 14-day trial is over you will be charged $79.95 plus shipping every month.
Not only is this price extremely high for a low purity supplement but they also make it very difficult to cancel your order. There is typically no response to your emails and getting a phone number is next to impossible. If you do get a phone number you're placed on hold for hours.
The unfortunate outcome is a large credit card charge and then having to cancel your credit card to stop the charges from continuing. Please don't let this happen to you!
Low Quality or Quantity Resveratrol Products
Be aware of the quality of product you are purchasing. At a minimum the purity should be 50% but 98% or better is ideal. Lower quality products tend to contain emodin which can cause stomach irritation.
Also make sure the amount of resveratrol is sufficient. There is a big difference between MG (milligrams) and MCG's (Micrograms). It is best for the resveratrol to be quoted as MG's.
Remember to use your common sense when purchasing products online. Typically if it sounds to good to be true then it is!
